Don't take advantage of 1MDB issue, warns IGP

As such, he has ordered an investigation to be conducted against a lawmaker who allegedly said there could possibly be massive demonstration pertaining to the issue.

"I am giving a firm reminder here to everyone, regardless of whether they are politicians or from NGOs, do not take advantage of the issue (1MDB) now," he told a press conference here today.

Earlier, Khalid had launched a joint Police and Armed Forces Patrol programme as part of the National Blue Ocean Strategy in Bandar Hilir here.

Recently, the lawmaker had said he did not rule out the possibility of massive demonstrations, involving the participation of individuals, political parties as well as NGOs.

The politician was reported as saying that, if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak did not resign or take temporary leave while the investigations into allegations pertaining to the 1MDB issue against him were carried out, the calls for the demonstration would become even louder.

Commenting on the recent report by Sarawak Report which claimed that RM2 million was said to have been deposited into the account of the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah's, Khalid said the account would be investigated if it had anything to do with the case.

Meanwhile, he said the country's crime index dropped by about 14 per cent for the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year.

He said a total of 56,175 criminal cases had been recorded in that period this year, compared to 65,336 cases last year.
