Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he is not confident that the amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, or Act 355 will be tabled in the current Parliament sitting.
“The Parliament session will end on April 6. I don’t think it will be tabled.
“But that is what I think. The decision lies in the Speaker’s hands,” he said in a press conference.
Ahmad Zahid said this when asked about the possibility of the amendments to Act 355 being tabled, after he attended the Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), here, on Saturday.
On Wednesday, prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government will not table the bill in Parliament.
Datuk Seri Najib had said that the decision was made “in the spirit of consensus” during a Barisan Nasional Supreme Council meeting earlier.
