DPM on working visit to Indonesia
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow for a two day working visit to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Indonesia is not only a major trading partner for Malaysia but also home to a large number of Malaysian university students.
Muhyiddin will also open Dewan Malaysia Jakarta in Jalan Hos Cokroaminoto, Central Jakarta and speak at the Global Movement of Moderates roundtable forum.
Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Hassan Munshe Afdzaruddin said the visit is significant in the context of ties at government and people level.
"The opening of Dewan Malaysia Jakarta is another landmark in the close ties between the governments of Malaysia and Indonesia.
"This shows that Indonesia welcomes Malaysia," he told a press conference here on Sunday.
The Global Movement of Moderates roundtable forum is a gathering of intellectual and Islamic scholars from Malaysia and Indonesia to discuss academic development and Islam.
Muhyiddin is also scheduled to present financial aid to Malaysian students in Jakarta and Makassar involved in the recent floods at 'Jamuan Malam Bersama Rakyat Malaysia' in Jakarta on Monday.
Most of the 6,400 Malaysian medical students studying in various universities in Indonesia are funded by the government.
Muhyiddin will be accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
