Dr Mahathir makes appearance at RCI on forex scandal

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today attended the the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the 1990s foreign exchange (forex) scandal at the Putrajaya's Palace of Justice today.

He sat at the public gallery after arriving at 9.05am and left at 10.40am after listening in to the proceeding.

The court called the fourth witness, Bank Negara Malaysia’s Internal Audit Department Manager, Wong Yew Sen to testify today.

He said that the former BNM adviser at that time, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop allegedly wrongly assumed the US Dollar currency projection.

"Yes, I met and interviewed Nor Mohamed to complete the internal audit report. He predicted that the US Dollar currency will fall, but that did not happen," he told the panel.

The proceeding, chaired by Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan is expected to be adjourned at 1pm before continuing at 2pm.

Assisting Mohd Sidek, who is Petronas chairman, are High Court judge Datuk Wira Kamaludin Md Said, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan, Special Task Force to Facilitate Business (Pemudah) co-chairman Tan Sri Saw Choo Boon and Malaysian Institute of Accountants member K. Puspanathan.
