Dr Mahathir's suit against Najib just a political gimmick, Nur Jazlan says

Home Deputy Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan today said former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has no locus standi to sue Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"The suit against Najib is just a political gimmick," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

"He does not have the locus standi to do that," he added.

Dr Mahathir, Anina Saadudin and Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan filed suit against Najib at Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla had filed the suit on behalf of the three individuals.

This is the first time the former premier has taken Najib to court, claiming misuse of power and breach of duty in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion scandal.

Meanwhile, veteran politician Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said Tun M has all the rights to file the suit against Najib.

“I think he has the right,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby.

“But this is a matter that the Courts must decide,” he added.
