KUALA LUMPUR:Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has expressed his concern over the increase in the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the country.
He said a total of 71 deaths were recorded within the first nine days of this year, compared to less than 100 fatalities recorded during the first nine months of 2020.
“We are very concerned with this development and may Allah swt protect us all. #Kitajagakita,” he tweeted.
Dr Noor Hisham’s tweet garnered 9,334 likes likes and 7,856 as well as 232 comments after nine hours it was posted.
One of the users said he hoped that the government would impose total lockdown to prevent more COVID-19 deaths.
I feel sorry to see family members of those who died of COVID-19, when they were not allowed to prepare the bodies for burial, a user by the name of Ariff Zuber wrote.
As of yesterday, the cumulative total of COVID-19 deaths in the country stood at 542 cases or 0.41 per cent from the total 133,559 positive cases.
Last Friday, Malaysia reported its highest tally of daily COVID-19 fatalities after recording 16 cases.
