Drawing inspiration from the Porsche 911

Did you know there is a place known as Porscheplatz in Germany?
We’re not pulling your leg there really is a Porscheplatz in Zuffenhausen, where the heart of Porsche beats and if you’re a Porsche enthusiast you would probably already know of this place and the rich history it holds. Zuffenhausen was the place that built the most amazing Porsche ever made in 1963, the 911. No other vehicle had thrilled the automobile enthusiasts worldwide like the 911, it is the model the company knows as the essence of the Porsche marque.
And right here where the first 911 ever rolled out of the assembly line, the British artist Gerry Judah has created a sculpture to pay tribute to the car. The sculpture is made up of three pillars that stand up to the height of 24m and each pillar is crowned with a Porsche 911 at the tip. This tribute piece will play the new centre piece for visitors from all over the world.

The evening that Porsche AG had launched the sculpture was entitled Inspiration 911. Porscheplatz had been turned into a lightshow of film and vehicle choreography. Film clips had been projected onto the glass façade of the Porsche Museum while a moving display included vehicles that are also components of the art piece: An F-series from 1970, a G-series from 1981 as well as the latest generation 911.
Matthias Müller, CEO of Porsche AG, said during his address at the event: “The sculpture that we present today is more than a work of art. It is also a symbol for our company’s close ties with Stuttgart.” In recent years, Porsche has invested around one billion Euros in facilities in the greater Stuttgart area. Furthermore, an additional 1.1 billion Euros have been earmarked for the recently-established safeguarding of locations – a large proportion of which is to be invested in Zuffenhausen. The commitment to the Swabian roots could not be clearer.
We’re sure the Porsche enthusiast in you is already booking your flight tickets to head over and witness the sculpture yourself so be sure to snap a picture and tag us at #carmagmy!
