The driver of a trailer that was involved in an accident on the North South Expressway near the Tanjung Malim Toll Plaza which killed six in a family Sunday, has been detained.

Hulu Selangor District Police chief, Supt R.Supramaniamsaid the 27-year-old driver was detained to help investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"His urine test was negative. Blood samples to detect drugs and alcohol have been sent to the Chemistry Department," he said in a statement here adding thatinvestigationrevealed that the driver had eight trafficoffencesand one under Section 3(1) Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 Amendment 1998.

In the 7.40amincident atKilometre403.3, Lam Wai Loon, 46, his wife Wong Check Lee, 53, their sons Lam Jie Yang, 19, and Lam Jie Yong, 13, Lam'sfather LamLeong Choy, 76, and brother Lam Wai Keat, 38, died at the scene.

During the 7.40amincident, the earth-laden northbound lorry went out of control, skidded andploughedinto the Ssangyong MPV which was on the same lane.

Meanwhile, three men were seriously injured and nine others slightly hurt when their cars collided in Jalan Serendah, Kuala Kubu Bharu near here Sunday.

In the 5pm incident, a Proton Wira car with two men and three women on board were believed to have collided with a Proton Perdana with seven people including four children and a baby.

Kuala Kubu Baru Fire and Rescue Station chief Kamil Hamadan said the three men were taken to the Selayang Hospital for treatment.
