The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) may expand the driver's card to drivers of express buses soon, according to its chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
He said the card would allow SPAD to monitor and assess the drivers' performance as well as take disciplinary action against bus companies that negligently take in drivers to cover the shortage.
"I also hope the move can boost public transportation and enable SPAD to take disciplinary action against drivers who committed offences," he told reporters, Monday.
Syed Hamid said the same card system had been adopted for taxis, which enabled consumers to identify the driver of the taxi they had boarded should anything untoward happen.
He said SPAD also planned to apply the card on drivers of other public transport.
Earlier, he launched the Kelana Jaya SPAD office's first anniversary celebration and new uniform for counter personnel.
Meanwhile in JOHOR BAHARU, 25 errant lorry drivers were nabbed in an integrated operation between 6.30 am and 2 pm, at the Pandan Rest and Recreation Area, Eastern Dispersal Link Highway, here, today.
SPAD enforcement director Datuk Che Hasni Che Ahmad said when contacted, that the lorries were carrying various loads including sand, earth, clay and stone.
