All types of drones are banned at locations where the 29th SEA Games sailing events are held said Kedah Police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff.

He said the control on the movements of boats and ships would also be tightened while several other measures would be implemented to avoid any security threats during the SEA Games.

"It is already a policy that drones cannot be arbitrarily flown. For sure, we don't allow drones to be flown here. We will get ready. We will enforce," he said after viewing the progress of the E-Rimau practical training here Wednesday.

According to Asri, the practical training involving 282 officers and personnel from various bodies under the Royal Malaysian Police was one of five series of security preparatory training in conjunction with the 2017 SEA Games from Aug 19-30.

"We are already aware of security threats related to Daesh which is already taking place in several other nations around us. So, we must be truly ready to face such threats," he said.

Asri said although police do not expect a large crowd for water sports such as sailing, but tight security measures must still be enforced in the light of developments of current threats.

He said the concept of numerous layers of security implemented during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) would be applied to ensure security measures are in place during the SEA Games.

Asri said security measures were not just to protect the public watching the events but also to cover the tourists coming to the island.

"Not only on land, in fact the security measures would also be implemented in the sea areas because we are located in an open area," he said.
