Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed said it is the right of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak to dismiss Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Deputy Prime Minister.
“That is the Prime Minister’s right, if he wants to drop, then drop,” said Dr Mahathir during a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur, today.
Commenting on the Tan Sri Gani Patail’ termination as the Attorney-General, Tun Mahathir said “now we have a new Attorney-General, I think he will investigate the case (1MDB). Now we have PAC but it does not have five members. Let’s wait until new members are appointed,” said Dr Mahathir.
When asked whether the appointment of Datuk Setri Zahid Hamidi as the new Deputy Prime Minister was the right choice, he only nodded.
“He (Ahmad Zahid) is qualified as the others,” said Dr Mahathir.
Asked on the rumours circulating that the Menteri Besar of Kedah, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir would be dropped from his post, Dr Mahathir said, “I do not know. Some quarters would be happy while others will not. What’s for sure is that if a politician ‘loses his position’ his place would be replaced by another individual as there are many others waiting to fill the position.
Asked if the new Cabinet line-up was better than the former line-up, he said, “I read blogs, FB and I have not seen changes in people (the peoples’ confidence towards the government). Everyone is voicing their thoughts on the Internet,” said Dr Mahathir.
