Muhammad Aiman Fitri Md Asmadi who drowned in Sungai Selangor at Kampung Timah, Bukit Beruntung, Selangor yesterday, had wanted to continue his studies at Bukit Jalil Sports School, said his father.
Md Asmadi Ibrahim, 37, said his 12-year-old son had also asked him to buy him a RM399 pair of branded sports shoes.
"I had not had the opportunity to buy it for him," he recalled to reporters woefully when met at the family's residence in Kampung Tengah here Saturday.
Muhammad Aiman Fitri's remains were buried at his village's Muslim cemetery at 2.15pm after being brought back from Selangor last night.
Md Asmadi decided for his son to be buried at the village.
In the incident around 5pm yesterday, eight children aged between nine and 12 years from a housing area were swept by strong currents while they were fishing with scoop nets in a nearby river.
One of them managed to swim to safety while five including Muhammad Aiman were found drowned.
A search and rescue operation is being carried out to locate the remaining two victims.
The four other children who drowned were two siblings, Shahrizat Abdullah, 12, and Shahrizwan, 10; Amirul Hakimi Khairul Amru, 9; and Muhammad Iskandar Shah, 12.
Md Asmadi said he only came to know that his son was missing upon being informed by search and rescue personnel before returning from work around 8pm.
"I rushed to the scene with my wife and it was around 10pm that my son's body was found by the fire and rescue department team," he said. - BERNAMA
