Police uncovered a drug laboratory after raiding a bungalow in Lorong Padang Tembak, Air Itam Monday.
Penang Narcotics Crime Investigation Division chief Supt Guan Beng Kang said 10 kg of heroin worth RM140,000 and 20,000 ecstasy pills worth RM930,000 were seized in the operation which began at 6pm.
"Three men, aged in their 20s to 50s, who were in the bungalow, were also detained.
"They tried to escape by climbing the fence when they became aware of the police but were apprehended as the area had been surrounded," he told reporters at the scene.
At 11 pm, Bernama check at the bungalow found that the operation had yet to be concluded.
Meanwhile, a man who was staying in the neighbourhood said the bungalow had just been occupied several months ago.
"They had just moved in recently. I have seen them leaving the bungalow from time to time, but we never talked," he added.
