A 24-year-old suspect, who was detained for trafficking 2.29 kilogrammes of heroin, tried to bribe his way out by offering the police RM50,000.
Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said the suspect was picked up in front of a fast food restaurant in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here on January 9 and had a previous criminal record.
A bag containing lumps of heroin estimated at RM100,000 was seized from the suspect's car.
"We have crippled an active heroin syndicate here with this arrest and are tracing another nine individuals involved," Paramasivam said.
Three hours later a 21-year-old man was detained at the old Tapah-Bidor road for possessing 19 grammes of drugs worth about RM50,000.
Both the suspects have been remanded under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
On a separate note, Paramasivam said the Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department had seized various drugs estimated at RM5 million and arrested 12,867 individuals for related offences throughout last year.
