IPOH: Perak State Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid has adjourned the state assembly sitting to next Wednesday, November 9.
Mohamad Zahir took the decision following the vote of confidence this morning which saw Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Faizal Azumu failing to get the support of the majority of State Assemblymen (ADUN) .
He said he and Faizal must first present the decision of the motion of confidence to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.
"I believe after this, we will take some time because I as the speaker need to seek consent to inform the Sultan regarding the DUN decision this morning.
"I believe that the Menteri Besar will seek consent to have an audience with the Sultan to inform His Highness of the same thing, subject to the laws of the state government.
"Therefore, I hereby adjourn this sitting to Wednesday, November 9, at 2.30 pm," he said.
Earlier, Ahmad Faizal was scheduled to present the Perak 2021 Budget on Friday.
Following his failure to get the support of the majority in the motion, Ahmad Faizal has promised that the transfer of power of the Menteri Besar would go smoothly.
A total of 48 ADUNs did not support the motion and only 10 supported while there was one spoilt or neutral vote. For a motion to get a simple majority, it needs the support of at least 30 ADUNs.
