KOTA BHARU: The crime index in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang shows a decrease, as a result of efforts implemented by all security agencies through operations and enforcement, said Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
He said the decrease is significant when compared with the set target.
"For example, in Kelantan, the average annual decrease is 25 per cent.
"Despite this, the Home Ministry, through its agencies, will always continue its efforts to curb criminal activities to increase the people's sense of security, especially in the east coast states," he said.
He said this in a speech at the 'Kita Demi Negara - Zon Timur' programme, which was officiated by Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Ahmad Yakob, at Dataran Lembah Sireh, here today.
For the record, the crime index ratio for 10,000 residents in Kelantan recorded 83.17 per cent as of Sept 30, compared with 101.50 per cent for the same period last year.
In Terengganu, the crime index recorded 86.65 per cent as of Sept 30, compared with 121.48 per cent for the same period last year.
Meanwhile, in Pahang the crime index also showed a decrease, recording 80.14 per cent as of Sept 30, compared with 115.85 per cent for the same period last year.
