eBay seller seeks to profit from MH370 incident

With the building online speculation on the ill-fated MH370 flight - an eBay seller has sought to profit from the incident by selling the domain name MH370.com.

The mysterious owner, known as “chypriotte” is looking to sell the domain name for $5,000 claiming: "Buy this domain today and sell it later on for thousands of dollars. Dozens of companies, families of victims, will want to buy it from you. Pay little money today and make huge profits tomorrow."

What was even more shocking was that the domain name was registered on the same day the flight went missing.

Checks on the website Whois reveals that the domain name was registered on GoDaddy’s website.

Further checks show that the domain name was registered on the 7th of March- the same day the flight went missing- by a company in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The auction garnered negative reactions from social media such as on Facebook and Twitter- some calling the auction “despicable”.

The auction for the domain name was then removed from eBay however it is not clear if this is because it has found a buyer or due to the backlash of reactions.

The Malaysian Airlines flight disappeared whilst en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on Saturday morning, with 239 passengers and crew members on board.
