EC to meet on Feb 5 over vacated Kajang seat

The Election Commission (EC) is to hold a special meeting on Feb 5 to discuss the vacating of the Kajang state seat by assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh of Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said in a statement Tuesday that the EC was notified on Monday by the Speaker of the Selangor Legislative Assembly, Hannah Yeoh, of Lee’s resignation.

He said the meeting would be held at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya and a news conference would be held afterwards by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

In the general election held last May, Lee won the seat with a majority of 6,824 votes in a six-cornered contest that also involved the Barisan Nasional, Berjasa and three independent candidates
