Education Ministry looking into possibility of making pre-school compulsory

AHMAD TAJUDDIN: The study was in line with the ministry's efforts in ensuring that the Malaysian education standard was at par with other developed countries.
The Education Ministry is studying the existing education system policy for the possibility of making it compulsory for children aged six years enter pre-school.
Its deputy director-general Datuk Ahmad Tajuddin Jab said the study was in line with the ministry's efforts in ensuring that the Malaysian education standard was at par with other developed countries.
"This year, about 84 per cent of children aged six, entered pre-school and within the next three years we are confident that the percentage will increase to 90 percent," he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Education Roadshow 2015 on Saturday.
He added that pre-school education was crucial to ensure children in the country perform better when they enter primary school.
