The effort to empower the Malay language as the language of knowledge and unity must be supported by the people who should have high level of awareness to use the language in all official functions and in their daily life.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said all quarters should be confident and feel positive about the ability of Malay language to become the language of knowledge and unity.
"The people must know, learn, understand, practice and spread the Malay language whole-heartedly. They must show their love and loyalty to the country by upholding the spirit of 'Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa'," he said at the ministry-level National Language Month 2015 celebration here tonight.
His speech text was read by his deputy P.Kamalanathan.
Mahdzir said the ministry had always strived to promote the use of Malay language in the country and had taken several proactive measures for the purpose, including the strategic plan to uplift status of Malay language 2016-2025.
"In this regard, the education sector also views seriously the ongoing audit on Malay language usage in the public sector," he added.
