Eight candidates to contest three MIC vice-president posts

Two incumbents, Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Datuk M. Saravanan and Perak State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany, are among eight candidates contesting the MIC's three vice-president posts at the MIC General Assembly on Nov 30 in Malacca.
The other candidates are the party's former vice-president, Datuk S. Sothinathan, former Youth chiefs Datuk S. A. Vigneswaran and Datuk T. Mohan, Johor Baharu division leader Datuk S. Balakrishnan, party treasurer Datuk Jaspal Singh and C. Selvaraja.
Their candidacy was announced by party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel at the MIC headquarters here Saturday night.
The candidates, when met, pledged to enhance the agenda on education and economy of the Indian community.
Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan is among the new faces vying for the party's 23 seats in the Central Working Committee (CWC).
A total of 88 candidates will be contesting for the 23 seats.
Meanwhile, CWC member Mohana Muniandy was elected as the new Wanita chief following the wing's party polls yesterday.
