Eight injured, two seriously in gas explosions at Mid Valley

Eight employees of two food and beverage outlets were injured in minor gas explosions at the Mid Valley Megamall on Jalan Klang Lama at 9.30am here today.
The Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that out of the eight individuals, two suffered serious injuries during the collapse of the ceiling of the front and kitchen of Chili’s Grill & Bar on the ground floor.
The rattling had caused the ceiling of the kitchen at fast food restaurant McDonald’s on the lower ground floor to collapse.
Those injured have been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya. (Earlier, a Fire and Rescue Department personnel told Astro AWANI that six individuals were injured.)
The shopping mall management in a Facebook statement today confirmed the incident and was caused by minor explosions during re-instatement work to Chili's liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) system.
No fatalities however, were reported, said the statement.
"We are working with the relevant authorities and have shut all the gas systems in Mid Valley Megamall until further notice.
"Safety remains our utmost priority and will focus our attention on the well-being of our tenants and guests," it said the statement.
The management also said that the mall would remain open to public with constant updates on its social media platform,
The Fire and Rescue Department are still investigating the cause of the explosions.
