PUTRAJAYA:Eight tabligh members returned home from New Delhi, India today after the Patna High Court in Bihar decided to quash charges against them for abusing their social visit passes.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar, in a statement today said all of them arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 3.58pm.
With the return of the group, only one Malaysian tabligh member is still waiting for a court decision in Kishanganj, India, he said.
“The Foreign Ministry, through its representatives in New Delhi, will continue to monitor the development of the case closely and cooperate with the local authorities to coordinate efforts to bring home the tabligh member after his release,” the minister said.
Kamarudin who is also the ministry's COVID-19 task force chairman said all the tabligh members would undergo the 10-day quarantine at the quarantine station set by the government.
Meanwhile, Kamarudin said the ministry had successfully brought home 188 of 189 Malaysian tabligh members from India.
He said last year, 180 Malaysian tabligh members were brought home through a series of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief missions.
He added that the ministry expressed appreciation and gratitude to all government agencies involved especially the National Disaster Management Agency and Health Ministry for their continuous cooperation and commitment in making the missions a success.
“The Malaysian government also expressed thanks to the Indian government for its continuous assistance in facilitating their return,” he said.
