Eight people remanded one week to help probe into death of policeman

The police have remanded eight people for seven days to assist in investigations into the death of a policeman in a drain in Jalan Kampung Tengah, Sungai Abong, yesterday.
Muar District Police Chief ACP Azman Ayob said the duration of the remand order obtained from the Magistrate's Court was from today until May 7.
"The police will use the remand period to conduct a detailed investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code to find out what really happened," he said when contacted today.
Azman said the eight people were detained in Batu Pahat, at about 12.45pm yesterday.
"A special force which was set up to assist in the investigations found that the eight people comprising six men and two women aged between 20 and 32 years were connected to the case and had information about it," he said.
Yesterday, Corporal Roydin Jamaludin, 32, who was based at the Muar District Police Headquarters was found dead in a drain at about 9am.
Azman said Roydin's remains would be flown to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah at about 9.15am today for burial in his hometown, Kudat.
