A family outing turned into a disaster when one member died last caused by an infectious bacterial disease known as leptospirosis.

Amirah Maisarah Zir Omar Khan, 8, died at 11.30pm at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar and buried at 11am Saturday at the Al-Hidayah Mosque, Bukit Pinang in Kepala Batas.

Amirah, the eldest of three siblings, had been warded at a private hospital after suffering from high fever since Tuesday before being transferred to HSB when her condition became even more serious.

According to her father, Zir Omar, they had gone on a family outing at a waterfall resort in Yan, Kedah as soon as the school holidays began on November 27.

His second daughter, Nursyazana, 5, had also tested positive for leptospirosis and is currently being treated at HSB. Fortunately Zahra Alisya, 2, is free from the disease.
