An international think-tank predicts Barisan Nasional, BN will win the 13th general election, based on the party’s economic reform agenda and also the leadership shown by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Based on those factors, The Economist Intelligence Unit, (EIU) sees the opposition coalition lagging far behind in the race to garner support.
EIU is part of the influential "The Economist" magazine, based in London which produces national industry reports and country risk analysis.
It points out that the opposition has made a number of promises involving large expenditures and these would become stumbling blocks in the implementation for them. It adds that the opposition had resorted to making many campaign promises. This involves the provision of free education that will require a total spending of RM43.3 billion. Efforts to abolish vehicle duty will reduce the government's tax revenue up to the amount of RM4.6 billion a year.
Unexpected growth of 5.2 per cent under the government of Datuk Seri Najib, coupled with increased local and foreign investment is being seen as contributing to the mounting confidence among the people.
