The Education Ministry has ordered all schools in Jerantut, Pahang and Kuala Krai, Kelantan to close tomorrow and Thursday due to extreme hot weather in the wake of the El Nino phenomenon.
The Ministry said the closure order followed the standard operating procedure, following the two districts recording daytime temperatures exceeding 37 degrees for three consecutive days.
"The closure of the schools is in the interest of the safety of the pupils," the statement said.
The closure involves 119 schools, 30 secondary schools and 89 primary schools. It will affect 41,665 students, 38,849 primary and secondary students and 2,816 pre-schoolers.

The statement added that the closure only affects the students and that the two schooling days need not be replaced. The administration of the schools involved will go on as normal.
