Elderly man burnt to death in Teluk Intan house fire

TELUK INTAN: An elderly man was burnt to death when two houses in Jalan Selat here caught fire early this morning.
Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Ismail Mohd Yunus said the charred body of Tan Ah Lang@Tan Ah Leng, 78, was found on a bed in one of the houses.
He said the victim was believed to have been trapped in the house when the blaze occurred.
Mohd Ismail said they were alerted to the fire at 4.42 am before a team from the Teluk Intan and Hutan Melintang stations assisted by personnel from the Teluk Intan Volunteer Fire Brigade were rushed to the scene.
“The team found two houses measuring 30x25 sq feet and 20x70 sq ft on fire when they arrived at the scene. About 90 per cent of the 30x25 sq ft house was already engulfed in fire while the neighbouring unit was 10 per cent affected.
“At about 6.30 am, we found the body of the man at the central part of the house,” he said when contacted today adding that the body was later handed over to the police.
Mohd Ismail said the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
