JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor police said today they will add more officers and personnel at the two customs and immigration checkpoints handling visitors from Singapore to facilitate the smooth return of Malaysian electors voting in the two by-elections in Johor on Saturday.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the police had deployed about 200 police officers and personnel and 60 traffic policemen at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) here.
"We may deploy more traffic policemen there. We will also open all lanes. We have had discussions with the immigration and state authorities on the matter," he said.
The other checkpoint is the CIQ facility at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Tanjung Kupang, Iskandar Puteri.
By-elections are being held for the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state seat following the death of the incumbent, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.
Polling is on Sept 9.
