'Electricity tariff should be reduced by 10 percent for the whole of 2015' - FOMCA

The federation in an official statement is however of the opinion that a reduction by 2.25 sen per kilowatt hour (kWh) in the Peninsular and 1.20 sen/kWh in Labuan and Sabah rated at 5.8 percent beginning March 1 until June 30, 2015 is not significant.

“We at FOMCA actually see a reduction of 10 percent to the average electricity tariff based on the global fuel price and we urge a reduction of 10 percent to be enforced for the whole year.

“The three month duration is too short for us to gauge on its effect and to be adopted by businesses. To look into the actual savings which will benefit the rakyat, the enforcement of the new tariff for three months is not enough,” said the media statement.

FOMCA urges the government to disclose the actual current price for the production of 1kWh of electricity based on its actual cost and how the amount of 5.8 percent was gained.

It also wants information on the amount of savings which could be achieved by consumers and how far will the prices of goods reduce based on the new tariff.
