The implementation of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system is expected to be fully implemented by 2018, said Deputy Works Minister, Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin.
She said the ETC implementation was aimed at reducing traffic congestion between 30 and 50 per cent through the use of technology.
"The concessionaires are providing various initiatives to ease the use of electronic payments for users and I am sure they can always refer to the customer care service for assistance.
"I hope the people will take this positively because it is intended to help all road users, not to make life difficult for them," she said here today after launching the sixth edition of the ASEAN M&E Show 2016, the premier mechanical and electrical engineering (M&E) event, which will end on May 25.
Rosnah said the event would provide business opportunities for industry players to collaborate and interact on the latest innovation and technologies in M&E, which are crucial to the construction industry.
"This programme also acts as a catalyst for the country's engineering industry and the ministry's involvement is a manifestation towards continuously supporting green energy and power-saving technologies," said Rosnah.
The construction industry currently contributes four per cent to the Gross Domestic Product and is expected to contribute 5.5 per cent in 2020.
The ASEAN M&E Show 2016, organised by UBM Malaysia, features the the International Refrigeration Ventilation & Air-Conditioning Industry Show, Green Energy Asia and Tenaga Expo and Forum.
The three-day event gathered 380 exhibitors from 33 countries including China, Malaysia, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
About 15,000 trade professionals, decision makers, potential buyers and partners from 50 countries are expected to patronise the event.
