Elements of sabotage in myIMMS system since 2010 - Immigration DG

The Malaysian Immigration Department has found elements of sabotage in its system (myIMMs) dating back to 2010.

Immigration director-general Datuk Sakib Kusmi revealed this to Bernama when asked to comment on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement on Monday in regard to the issue.

According to Sakib, the covert activities had reached a serious level warranting harsh action.

"The department has identified the individuals involved but the investigation is still going on and the outcome will be announced when the time comes," he said.

Without disclosing the number of individuals involved, he said the culprits would be dealt with, pursuant to regulations stipulated for civil servants.

Sakib said the department was being assisted in the investigation by the Royal Malaysian Police.

On Tuesday, a task force headed by Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim was formed to probe the myIMMs.

Alwi said the team was gathering documents to identify weaknesses in the system's implementation.

The Auditor-General's 2015 Report in its first series stated that myIMMs, set up to support the Immigration Department's main operation was not functioning satisfactorily, impairing its objective.

The report said a biometric facility worth RM10.3 million was procured for myIMMs to screen and identify foreigners as well Malaysians at the country's entry points but had not been installed and used.
