EMCO at Sungai Udang Prison, staff quarters starting Feb 3

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be implemented at Sungai Udang Prison, Melaka and its staff quarters, from February 3 to 16.
Senior Minister (Defence Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it was following a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in the area.
"As of 31 January 2021, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has conducted 339 screening tests and out of that number, a total of 113 positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded involving 79 detainees, 22 staff and 12 family members.
"The implementation of EMCO is to facilitate the MOH in carrying out targeted screening on all detainees, staff and close contacts involved to control the spread of infection in the community.
"The EMCO SOP in this prison is also the same as previously announced," he said in a daily media statement, on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Compliance Operations Task Force led by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has arrested 826 individuals for breaching the SOP.
Among the offences recorded were no physical distancing (170), crossing of districts / states without permission (158), not wearing face mask (128), leaving the house without reasonable excuse (69), premises operating overtime / without permission (53) and others (248)," he added.
