The emergence of extremist right-wing groups within races has contributed to the increase of racial tension in the country.

Spokesman for the group of eminent Malaysia (G25) and activist, Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin said racist rhetorics as well as hate speeches spewed by such groups do not help improve relations between races.

"Instead of moderation, these extremist groups threaten the unity among our multi-racial and multi-religious society," said Noor Farida at the 9th Malaysian Students Leaders Summit here, today.

She said, what we have to do is have respect for each others' culture and religion, and celebrate our differences.

"What we have now is rising conservatism. Tunku Abdul Rahman and other forefathers came up with a wonderful document called the Federal Constitution.

"It is a document that takes into account all races. What some extremists want to do is to replace this with Islamic laws.

"What will happen to the rights of the non-Malays?" she asked.

She said what moderate groups like G25 is trying to do is to defend the Federal Constitution and wants the country to remain secular.
