KUALA LUMPUR: Only the law under the declaration of emergency applies to prevent the Batu Sapi by-election (PRK), Sarawak State Election (PRN) or General Election, said Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Annuar said no clear laws could be used to block the election process in the near future.
“The Batu Sapi by-election must be held within 60 days from the day the seat became vacant, but the people ask for the by-election to be postponed and officials (Election Commission) are afraid to go to the red zone.
“The Sarawak State Assembly (DUN) term expires in a few months and the state elections must be held, but everyone is afraid of what happened in Sabah after the PRN, befell Sarawak. They asked for PRN to be postponed first.
"Various parties have threatened to bring down the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin through a parliamentary session next month.
“And if that happens, then the Prime Minister can dissolve Parliament and the GE should be held, but the people do not want elections to be held for fear of spreading COVID-19.
"Which laws can be applied to postpone the election so that we can ensure that COVID-19 is controlled and does not threaten the lives of the people," he said here on Saturday.
In the meantime, Annuar said, through the proposal, it turned out that there were parties who were dissatisfied with the administration which is increasingly accepted by the people just because they want to escape from something that will bother them.
"It is possible that the obstacle comes from people who are greedy for power without thinking about the harmony or health of others," he said.
