KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin assured that the judiciary will continue to function when the implementation of the Emergency Proclamation is carried out.
In fact, Muhyiddin asserted that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government will never interfere in court matters.
"I also assure you that during this period of emergency, the judiciary will continue to function to uphold law and justice.
"The Perikatan Nasional government will continue to defend the independence of the judiciary and will never interfere in the affairs of the court.
"The judiciary will continue to be the beacon of justice in our country and I will never interfere in the business of the court," he said in a special message on Monday.
In a related development, Muhyiddin also informed that economic activities will continue to function subject to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (PKP) enforced.
"The government will ensure that economic activities do not stop so that the people can continue to work and businesses, trade and industry can continue to operate as usual.
"The government is also committed to ensuring that the best governance practices continue to be practised throughout the emergency implementation period," he added.
Even internationally recognised national regulatory organisations such as Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the Securities Commission and Bursa Malaysia, will continue to play their role as catalysts, regulators and facilitators of companies and markets, he said.
