Employers arrested for abusing three Indonesian maids

Melaka Tengah District Police chief, ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said both suspects, a woman in her 50s and her son in his 20s, were remanded for three days from yesterday.

"The two suspects will be investigated under the Anti Trafficking in Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said the police would conduct further investigation on the case including taking statements from the suspects and victims.

Local newspapers today reported the three Indonesian house maids were resolute in escaping and asking for help from the public because they could no longer stand from being abused by their employers in Bukit Katil, Melaka.

The three maids claimed they were frequently beaten badly and their salaries were allegedly kept by their employers.
