The Home Ministry has proposed that the Cameron Highlands District and Land Office engaged the services of the Auxiliary Police to assist in preventing land encroachments in the area.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi felt that the move was more appropriate instead of the ministry approving the supply of firearms to the enforcement team of the District and Land Offices.
"With the presence of the Auxiliary Police, we can straight away supply firearms (to the Auxiliary Police)...compared to individual ownership where the risk is higher," he told a media conference after closing the Annual General Assembly of the Anti-Drug Association of Malaysia (Pemadam), here today.
He said this when asked to comment on local press reports today regarding the Cameron Highlands Land and District Office asking for its enforcement personnel to be supplied with firearms to prevent illegal land encroachments.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said that as of 1.30pm today, the ministry had not received any appeal for the revocation of the licence for the security service agency that engaged the security guard involved in the fatal shooting of the Ambank operations officer at Jalan USJ Central 2, Subang Jaya, on Oct 23.
Today was the last day for any appeal from the company which had been operational since 1986 or the licence would be revoked immediately.
