The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system, a cashless mode sytem for collecting toll, will be introduced at the KL-Karak Highway beginning Sept 9, this year.
The move, mooted by the government, was taken up by ANIH Berhad, which is the concession holder of the East Coast Expressway (ECE).
ANIH Berhad President and CEO Datuk Dr Azmil Khalid said ANIH will provide sufficient manpower to assist road users on the new system.
“We are confident that the ETC implementation will provide efficient toll management operational efficiency during peak hours.
“The ETC implementation is originally supposed to take place in 2016, however, we took the proactive measure to fast track it because we believe the system will ease traffic congestion caused by the cash payment method,” he said at a press conference, here, today.
Meanwhile, Anih Berhad Senior Vice President, Head Highway Asset, Radzimah Mohd Radzi said the transaction periods at toll plazas would be faster and efficient as more cars would be able to pass through a lane every hour with the ETC system in place.
“For the first three months of its implementation, Class 1 ETC users will enjoy a 5 percent rebate,” she said.
ANIH has been interacting with the public on social media platforms such as Twitter about the transformation plan.
ANIH prepared for the 100 percent implementation of ETC system by setting up sufficient customer service centres and reload lanes to ensure its efficiency.
