KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang admitted that he had never heard any rumours about the efforts of certain parties to try to entice Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to join the Sheraton Move.
The Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament said, in fact, the matter had never been mentioned by Anwar in their meetings before, since the PH government was overthrown in February last year until today.
According to Kit Siang, he only found out about the matter through media reports regarding the interview of Setiawangsa Member of Parliament, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, with the media yesterday.
“It’s the first time that I have heard that Anwar Ibrahim was approached to be part of the “Sheraton Move” conspiracy to topple the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government but the PKR president rejected the offer and the opportunity to be in the new government to remain loyal to PH.
“The version given by the PKR Organising Secretary and MP for Setiawangsa, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, in an interview with Malaysian Insight yesterday is completely news to me.
“I have met Anwar several times in the week after the Sheraton Move in February 2020, as well in the following months, but Anwar had never mentioned Nazmi’s version of the Sheraton Move to me," he said in a statement today.
In an interview with The Malaysian Insight portal last week, Nik Nazmi was reported to have said that the Port Dickson MP had been offered to be part of the "Sheraton Move" but he rejected it.
"Anwar is not willing to leave PH's ally, DAP, because the supporters of the Sheraton Move only wanted PKR and not DAP," he said as reported in the portal.
Meanwhile, DAP Political Education Director Liew Chin Tong said that during the week after the Sheraton Move from February 23 to 29, he was involved in many meetings and gatherings with Anwar's inner circle and each of them had personal records and notes.
The idea of inviting Anwar to form a government without DAP, he added, never arose, as the main original purpose of the Sheraton Move was to remove Anwar from the equation.
