Ex-UiTM student's legal suit settled

A RM10 million suit by a former Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Melaka student against 11 of his ex-seniors for allegedly assaulting him was settled at the High Court here today after the defendants filed an application to tender an open apology.
The open apology to Ahmad Zulhelmi Md Suhaimi, 21, was read before Justice Datuk Nor Bee Ariffin by Haiqal Syukri Jantan, 22, who represented the 11 defendants.
Following the apology, the plaintiff's counsel Muhd Azmi Talib acknowledged to the court that the case had been amicably settled and applied for the consent judgement to be recorded.
When met by the media, Ahmad Zulhelmi who is presently working in a bank said he was relieved that the case was over and that he did not hold any grudge against the defendants.
He filed the suit on March 30 this year, claiming RM10 million general damages for tort of conspiracy to cause him injury, aggravated and exemplary damages, interests and costs.
He named Mohd Firdaus Arizan, 24, Nohd Azmir Ariff Shayuti, 23, Ahmad Faidhi Othman Gumanti, 25, Haiqal Syukri, Muhammad Muzakir Othman, 22, Ahmad Idris Baharom, 23, Muhammad Hasif Daud, 22, Ahmad Firdaus Husni Ahmad Razali, 22, Mohd Farhan Md Mukhtar, 24, Mohd Fikry Lokman, 22, and Muhammad Amirul Haron, 22, as defendants.
In his statement of claim, he alleged that on July 18, 2010, at 10.30pm, the 11 senior students called him to a room and subjected him to questioning.
Ahmad Zulhelmi who was a quantitative science diploma student at the time alleged that they also assaulted him.
He claimed that the questioning session continued until 7am the next day on July 19, 2010 in another room, during which he was beaten up, slapped, punched and kicked.
He claimed he was forced to seek treatment at Alor Gajah hospital and Melaka general hospital and was warded for three days.
He further claimed that he had to seek follow-up treatment at the Pantai Specialist Hospital in Ampang and Al Islam Specialist Hospital in Kampung Baru here, and underwent surgery on Oct 11 the same year.
