Excavation site of dinosaur remains will be kept a secret, says Pahang MB
Pahang Menteri Besar, Adnan Yaakob - Filepic
The excavation site of the first ever dinosaur fossil found in Malaysia will be kept a secret in order to protect it, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
Adnan said that the state government will call for an exco meeting soon on the matter. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will also be informed of the historical find.
“I was informed a few days back and I will inform the exco members as well as Najib,” he said.
Adnan said that the state government will urgently form a guideline in order to cordon off the area.
“I will be informing the forestry and police so we can either fence up and gazette the area. If the area is big, we may also need to patrol the area. At this time, we cannot reveal the exact area of the find,” he added.
He said this is to prevent, among other things, thieves and private collectors from damaging and disturbing the site.
“It is obvious that some people may come to disturb, there are also those who believe the teeth can bring be used for...its so-called magical properties perhaps,” he said.
Adnan said that he was happy and proud of the discovery in Pahang and hope that this could boost the state's tourism sector .
“I am very very proud and very happy and we will definitely give our support, possibly some funding to help this," he said, adding that he was also looking at building a dinosaur museum in the future.
