Police has identified the latest tactic adopted by Malaysians involved in the Islamic State (IS) militants activities by using different paths to enter Syria. The move is believed to avoid the authorities.
Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said, the tactic proved effective especially after a man believed to be a National Service Training Department was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday.
“He is believed to hold the intention to go to a third country before leaving for West Asia.
“He was a National Service trainer, that’s all I have to share. There is no need to detail out what he’s done. It’s enough for us to know that he was a National Service trainer.
He added, the man flew was en route to Turkey via Brunei and straight to Syria.
“ Normally, it is from KLIA to get to the closest country in the Middle East but he actually chose a country in Asia to get closest to Syria. He wanted to change the direction from Brunei which he took. Don’t worry as we are monitoring this group and will take appropriate action," stressed Khalid.
He was talking to reporters after he attended the 2014 League Table Hall Appreciation event held in Subang Jaya, Selangor today.
Suspect was reportedly married in Brunei with a teacher before leaving for Turkey.
Police is investigating if the suspect has tried to influence other PLKN trainers with his ideology.
The background of his spouse is now being probed.
