KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Mohammad Anuar Mohd Yunus, the political secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, today lodged a police report against three news portals for disseminating fake news and defamation against the Bera MP.
Mohammad Anuar lodged the report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters here at about 2.40 pm.
Mohammad Anuar said a media portal issued a false report titled "Ismail Sabri worried about being the shortest PM, begs for support", which was published yesterday (Jan 30) and reposted by two other portals on the same day.
"This is fake news and the event in the statement happened when the prime minister was at a function in Bera on Jan 29.
"Even at the media conference, the three journalists from the portals were not present at the location and have twisted the statement to raise doubts over and credibility of the prime minister," he told a media conference in front of the Dang Wangi police headquarters here today.
Mohammad Anuar said they would let the police carry out an investigation and take appropriate action against the three portals, which intentionally and unethically produced the false article against the prime minister.
Dang Wangi District Police chief ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya has confirmed receiving the report.
