A family 11 people have been displaced after a fire tore through their home in Taman Cempaka, Bukit Kuang near Kemaman.
The intense fire broke out at about 5pm Sunday while the family members were resting at home.
Chukai Fire and Rescue Department Operations personnel Mokhtar Musa said 12 firefighters in three engines rushed to the area minutes after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival the house was already 80 percent burnt.
“We had faced difficulties in obtaining water supply as the fire hydrant in the area had been damaged by irresponsible parties. We were forced to take water from a nearby river to put out the fire. We also managed to contain the fire from spreading to nearby homes,” said Mokhtar.
He said the firefighters managed to contain the fire from spreading to nearby homes in the area and successfully put out the flames 20 minutes later.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
