Famous Faces For Fashion & Beauty

Astro Publication 24/02/2015 | 06:32 MYT
Almost as awaited as the shows themselves, every season the fashion community waits to see who will headline and drive the advertising campaigns for their much-loved brands. This Spring Summer 2015 sees a collection of supermodel comebacks, unforeseen pairings, edgy choices, predictable tabloid names and a group of women who are well past their late twenties. We also take a look at some of the standout beauty campaigns featuring prominent faces; they say you haven't made it as a star until you have a beauty campaign. As March issues roll in from some of the biggest publications, chances are that you’ve already seen or come across at least a few of the new Spring 2015 ad campaigns. But we see an obvious trend with major celebrity castings and their effectiveness is pretty noticeable.

It’s such a big deal every time a new A-lister signs on to be the face of a celebrated brand. The fact that these well-known models, actresses, and musicians also get gorgeous makeovers or transform their look for the ads is just an added bonus. If you're as celebrity obsessed as we are just take a look at some of this season’s most talked-about, masterfully done fashion and beauty campaigns.

Calvin Klein underwear s/s 2015 campaign featuring Justin Bieber and photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Iconic Calvin Klein superstars Mark Wahlberg and Kate Moss have been traded in for The Biebs — at least for now. Teenybopper heartthrob Justin Bieber shows the world that he’s all GROWN up with this season’s Calvin Klein Jeans campaign. Exhibiting his fresh tattoos and a ripped torso (still arguably real or not) the singer is seen getting frisky with supermodel and Calvin Klein alum Lara Stone. Regardless of your opinion, people are talking non-stop about this campaign and isn’t that the point, anyway? (Smart move Calvin Klein).

Tilda Swinton for NARS Spring Campaign. François Nars doesn’t like to do anything foreseeable, even in his choice of campaign models. This time he taps eccentric British actress Tilda Swinton, who will be the face of Nars’ spring 2015 campaign (and we approve). Past choices have included Charlotte Rampling and Daphne Guinness, both very quirky in their own way. Swinton has a bold style and a great body of work, with such strong personality and charm it’s hard to not love this campaign.

The famed supermodel from the Kardashian/Jenner pack, Kendall Jenner strikes a pose for Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs’ army is here and Kendall is leading the battalion. After walking a number of shows for both their Fall and Spring runways, the mini-Kardashian is one of the supermodels for Marc Jacobs’ spring 2015 campaign. If you were hoping that Jenner’s moment had passed you are sure to be disappointed this year, she is still going strong! And we expect to see a lot more of her.

Coach special 'Coach Dreamers' s/s 2015 campaign, featuring Chloe Moretz and photographed by Mikael Jansson. Chloe Grace Moretz is young, fresh-faced and the personification of Coach’s new direction –the wanderer and rebellious free-spirit with a touch of virtuousness. Chloe is mature for her age (as seen in interviews) and personifies the brand vividly. Plus, it will draw in the younger demographic like moths to a flame. In this case, their flame is a kickass beautiful young actress.

Helen Mirren for L’Oreal Paris. What can we say: Helen's first commercial for L'Oréal Paris skin care is amazing! Instead of taking the age obliterating angle, the brand embraces the imperfections that come with age. Helen struts around in red lipstick, leather, and silky lingerie demonstrating that women really do get better with age. Like fine wine.

Joan Didion for Céline. Céline is a brand best known for producing trends, being naturally cool and always spoken highly of by fashion tastemakers. Any number of models could be photographed to embody the brand but no typical model has stirred such excitement as Céline’s latest casting of Joan Didion. The 80-year old author is shown looking impossibly chic in her chopped grey bob, huge dark sunglasses and black shirt. Here’s hoping we’re just as cool as she is when we are 80! When you take one cultural icon, dress her in some Phoebe Philo designs and sit her for a portrait with Juergen Teller – this is what you get! Brilliant. A viral phenomenon that caught the fashion world off guard.

Kate Spade New York s/s 2015 campaign featuring Iris Apfel and Karlie Kloss. Interior designer Iris Apfel is 93 and fast becoming one of the fashion industry’s most sought-after models after being featured alongside Tavi Gevinson in jeweller Alexis Bittar’s new campaign. Now she is the face of Kate Spade’s Spring 2015 collection with Victoria’s Secret favourite Karlie Kloss. Cosying up to one another on a park bench, Mrs Apfel models a pair of bold green trousers, blue polka-dotted socks and a beautifully embellished beige coat while Kloss wore a simple white dress. The two look extremely adorable and it defies society’s preconceived ideas about the fashion industry’s inherent ageism.

Mulberry s/s 2015 campaign, featuring Georgia May Jagger and photographed by Inez and Vinoodh.

Julia Roberts for Givenchy. Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci doesn’t typically turn to easily recognized faces for his campaigns, but this season he went in for a different route, something with a twist, of course. Julia Roberts abandoned her distinctive wide-grinned, infectious smile in favour of an uncompromising yet gorgeously fierce face for the brand’s advertising. It’s edgy, it’s cool and we couldn’t be more delighted!

Kim & Kanye for Balmain’s Menswear. It comes as no surprise that Hollywood’s most talked-about power couple are the subjects of a Balmain campaign — specifically the menswear line. Creative director (and Kimye’s best friend) Olivier Rousteing says the ad campaign celebrate love and friendship.

Gemma Ward for Prada. Ward is definitely making a comeback! Supermodel Gemma Ward, who took a six-year break from the limelight, in part to raise her daughter, is back and better than ever. After a surprise return to the runway in September’s Prada Spring 2015 show, along with editorials piling up including a cover for Australian Vogue — it looks like Ward hasn’t missed a beat. Serious fashion enthusiasts will have their eyes peeled for this babe all year long.

Natalie Portman is getting brazenly naughty in her new Miss Dior campaign. The actress plays a runaway bride in the fragrance film. Given the choice to become a madame or stay single, Natalie chooses the life of excitement, independence, freedom and helicopter rides with a hot stranger. This ad campaign will have us saying, "It's miss, actually," with pride.

Keira Knightley for Chanel. Keira has been the face of Chanel's Mademoiselle Fragrance for years, and now she is representing the cosmetics empire of the brand. In the new Rouge Coco ad, Keira sports a bright red lipstick from the collection. All 29 classic colours have been reformulated and named after Coco Chanel's closest friends.

DKNY unveiled DKNY Jeans and DKNY Men's ad campaigns. The men's campaign stars Jackson Hale, Ben Nordberg, Sang Woo Kim and Jeremy Matos. Cara Delevingne also becomes one of the boys for the men's campaign in a tailored suit, white buttoned up blouse, grey tie and flatform sneakers. Rockin’ gender bending fashion and attesting that a woman can wear a suit just as well as a man.
