MET Madness The biggest event on the annual fashion calendar opened the week with a robo-bang! With a Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology theme, Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Spring 2016 heated up with a gala studded with the world’s biggest stars: musicians, actresses, supermodels, designers, and all and sundry in the global entertainment and fashion power list. Making for amazing fashion fodder are the red-carpet hits and misses that graced the MET Gala 2016 – you be the judge. Coco Cuba No one does a Cruise show quite like Chanel, as it cranked up Cruise or Resort 2016-17 season with 170 colourful vintage Cadillacs and Chevrolets transporting international show guests around Havana, Cuba to catch the fashion showcase Karl Lagerfeld had prepared. Amidst the faded multi-coloured façade of the city’s Spanish colonial buildings, models wearing Trilbys and Che Guevara-inspired berets, marched out garbed in Chanel classics amped up with Cuban flair and references. Rihanna’s Shoe Fetish Bag gal RiRi and iconic shoemaker Manolo Blahnik teamed up to create ‘Denim Desserts by Rihanna’. With only six designs and 400 pairs of footwear stocked at each of the Manolo Blahnik New York, London and Hong Kong stores from May 5, it was only inevitable that the limited-edition Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik footwear collection caused the collab’s e-commerce microsite to crash. Sequins and embroidery inspired by Rihanna’s hand tattoos on the denim-heavy sandals, pumps and boots most probably incited the high havoc.

Royal Cover Girl HRH The Duchess Of Cambridge is the face of Vogue UK’s centenary issue, the very first magazine shoot the chic and photogenic royal has agreed to do. Two images from the shoot are going to be part of the Vogue 100 exhibition held at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Shot in Norfolk where the duchess lives a great deal of the time, the photographs reveal the beautiful royal’s natural beauty and love of the country life.

Yet Another Farewell The latest designer to exit a fashion house is Alessandra Facchinetti this week going separate ways with Tod’s — hot on the heels of Hedi Slimane departing Saint Laurent, Alber Elbaz from Lanvin and Raf Simons from Dior. Tod’s is halting its ready-to-wear collection kick-started when Facchinetti joined the Italian fashion conglomerate in 2013.
