Fate of 315 North Koreans in Malaysia to be known today - DPM

To deport or not to?

That is the burning question on almost everyone's mind over the government's decision whether deport or detain the 315 North Koreans in Malaysia.

The decision, said Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be determined by the governement today.

He stressed that any decisions made over the matter will be done rationally to ensure diplomatic ties of both countries are maintained.

“There were 2,435 North Koreans in Malaysia previously and now there are 315 of them here. Some of them are working in Sarawak and their work permits have expired.

“I will make the decision later today if they will be deported or detained in Malaysia,” said Ahmad Zahid after the launch of Stop Children Sexual Crime: Hentikan!!! at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.

Ahmad Zahid who is also the Home Minister said that the Attorney-General Office’s confirmation on whether the next-of-kin will bring the remains of Kim Jong Nam home.

To date, no one has come forward to claim the body at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital Forensics Unit.

He also said that talks with representatives and North Korea has given its assurance that the nine Malaysians in Pyongyang are safe and remained the utmost priority during the negotiations.
