The federal government will give compassionate aid soon to east coast farmers and fishermen who suffered losses due to the recent floods, Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom said today.
He said the aid would be given once the agencies under the ministry had completed identifying the farmers and fishermen and recorded their losses.
"The compassionate aid will be given based on the estimated loss based on the rate fixed by the ministry," he told reporters at the presentation of awards to children of policemen who excelled in the 2012 UPSR and PMR examination, at the Kubang Pasu police headquarters, in Jitra.
Mohd Johari, who is the MP for Kubang Pasu, also donated RM5,000 to the Kubang Pasu Police Wives Welfare Association (Perkep) for its activities.
He also said that farmers in Pendang who suffered losses due to floods recently were expected to receive compassionate aid from the federal government soon.
