A woman cut a vein in her hand during a struggle with an armed foreign man who attempted to rob her at a jogging track near The Light, here yesterday.

Northeast district police chief SAC Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said in the incident around 7.30pm, the 24-year-old victim was jogging alone when the robber accosted her.

He said the man brandished a knife and groped the victim for valuables and while trying to fight off the robber, the woman cut herself in the hand and foot.

"The suspect took the victim''s mobile phone and fled when he saw the injuries on the woman," he said here today, adding, the victim was rushed to Penang Hospital by members of the public and had been transferred to a private hospital here for surgery.

Following the incident, police arrested a 23-year-old Bangladeshi at a ''kongsi'' near the jogging track and confiscated a knife.

Meanwhile, Bukit Mertajam, Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said police detained a 58-year-old man at 10am yesterday on suspicion of drug trafficking.
